In a world where humanitarian needs are increasing and donors are increasingly withdrawing, what works to ease suffering?
In this report below from David Miliband of International Rescue Committee, there are some great insights about the innovation needed in the humanitarian sector. The article states: 💡 "We know what works: cash assistance, simplified malnutrition treatment, immunization and anticipatory climate action are consistently cost-effective and transformative. Our challenge is how to focus resources on these solutions which we know are effective." Baal Dan Charities has been running for 20 years - focused on efficiency and grassroots programs at a small-scale that deliver aid directly to children that are in need. 💡 We are funding simplified malnutrition treatment for vulnerable children in Ethiopia, South Africa, India and Nepal. And we track every dollar and impact reporting transparently, while cutting out administrative expenses and bloat. With over 240 million people requiring humanitarian aid in the next year, does our work make a difference when the needs and scale is so great? As Mother Teresa said; "We ourselves feel that what we are doing is just a drop in the ocean. But the ocean would be less because of that missing drop." 💫 Please give to Baal Dan - every dollar makes a real difference for children in need and every donation is valued no matter the amount. 💚 Donate now at www.baaldan.org David Miliband We live in a world where technological progress is speeding up, yet political and humanitarian safeguards are deteriorating even faster. Nearly 240 million people will require humanitarian aid in 2026, yet global funding has fallen by more than half. The challenge now is to deliver more protection with fewer resources and under worse conditions. Yet while the situation is dire, it is not hopeless. We can build a humanitarian model that is smarter, faster and more efficient. Here’s how. https://lnkd.in/ejWRT-Eq

A monthly contribution brings in the stability of fundraising we need. As a small charity most of our giving is seasonal but if we can increase our monthly recurring donors, we will be able to have a pool of funds for children in need throughout the year. Please share this message with your family and friends to encourage others to join in on monthly giving - every dollar makes an impact. When you make a donation at www.baaldan.org select "make this a recurring donation".
I wanted to pay my deep respects to Sir Mark Tully, the legendary “voice of India,” whose passing is a profound loss. I had the great honor of meeting him in 2011, when he opened the school I built in Turkahan, India through a grant for Project Mala. It remains one of the most meaningful moments of my life. I deeply admired Sir Mark Tully, not only for his extraordinary journalism, but for the authenticity, curiosity, and humanity he brought to every story he told. When I shared with him that I, too, had a degree in Journalism and asked his advice for my work with Baal Dan, he told me simply: keep telling the stories of the children you help. It was such a humble piece of wisdom, yet it has stayed with me and guided me ever since. I will always remember his warmth, his grace, and the way he used his voice to illuminate the lives of others. His legacy lives on in the countless stories he told and in all of us who continue the work of giving voice to those who need it most. To honor this journey, we created a short film that captures the magic, courage, and compassion at the heart of Baal Dan. “The Little Hero” is a gentle, enchanting story brought to life by the extraordinary storyteller, artist, and actor Sol Landerman. His narration invites children into a world where empathy becomes heroism and where small hearts can create big change. This film is a gift to all the little ones and the little heroes in your life. 🌟 Watch the World Premiere: https://lnkd.in/gE24zSM5 💛 Support Baal Dan’s work with children: www.baaldan.org Thank you for being part of this incredible 20-year journey. Wishing for Peace on Earth to all this year. It is easy to make giving part of your resolutions in 2026. You can make a one-time donation to start off this year or set up a recurring monthly donation you can set up one time for the rest of the year.
You can also check if your company offers employee paycheck deduction and company matching. We have big goals ahead this year - from continuing to support our little ones at orphanages in India, providing daily food and supplies for programs for children with special needs in Nepal and South Africa and hopefully extending our food rations program in Ethiopia! With your help we can all bring a smile and hope to children in need! Wishing you blessings, joy and peace this coming year! Don’t forget to make a donation before midnight on December 31st!
100% of your donation goes directly to feed children because Baal Dan is run by volunteers that subsidize all the administrative costs of running this charity. Baal Dan is Tax-Exempt: Baal Dan Charities is exempt from federal income tax under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. Contributions to Baal Dan Charities are deductible under section 170 of the code. Baal Dan is classified as a public charity and qualified to receive tax-deductible bequests, devises, transfers and gifts under section 2055, 2106 or 2522 of the code. This little one and her mother are part of Baal Dan’s food rations grant partnership with Action for Social Development and Environmental Protection Organization (ASDEPO). Each ration bundle costs about $60 and provides food for 3 months for a child in need. Just a few months ago, I was in Ethiopia and witnessed the amazing impact Baal Dan makes for children in need. Our food rations partnership with ASDEPO enabled us to save the lives of over 600 children who were so severely malnourished that their arm circumference was smaller than just two fingers. It was humbling to see, and it was my most precious moment this year.
*In the past year here are the grants that were activated! 1. ASDEPO (Ethiopia) for food rations for 600 children. 2. CHILD HAVEN (India) for biogas system, sewing machines, vitamins, daily food and school supplies for 500 children. 3. JAGRITI SCHOOL FOR BLIND (India) for daily food and school supplies as well as tech equipment for 100 orphaned girls who are blind. 4. LIGHTHOUSE (South Africa) for daily food and new school uniforms and shoes for children and young adults with special needs. *Grant funds listed were sent to grantees in Dec 2024. I hope that your holiday season is blessed, happy, peaceful and safe. Every dollar counts and we make our funds stretch as far as they can to help as many little ones as possible with virtually no overhead unlike many other organizations. "The conversation also addressed a growing hesitation among companies to give publicly, amid political polarization and concerns about reputational risk. Tanya's advice: start with the why. She says that if you’ve defined your mission and communicated your values, you can withstand scrutiny. “Authenticity and alignment can help buffer you against any potential risks.” Every partnership carries risk, but the benefits of giving, to society and to your own people, far outweigh it." 📖 Read the Greenbook article here: https://www.greenbook.org/insights/executive-insights/the-power-of-purpose-how-charitable-giving-strengthens-the-insights-community 🌍 See the Esomar 2025 session here: https://youtu.be/e_AcaPL-wsg?si=tQS1UJ7yySAfXkZ4 Today is #GivingTuesday!
