The average nonprofit in the United States take between 15% to 40% of donations for administrative expenses. In some cases, much more is spent on salaries, fundraising and other costs. Since Baal Dan was founded in 2006, our admin costs have been consistently less than 2.5% and in 2024 we only spent 1.1% on administrative costs. How is that possible?
We keep our costs low by focusing on 3 things: 1. We leverage volunteers, programs and partners as much as possible to ensure that admin costs are kept to a minimum. 2. We focus on maintaining a lean and agile operating model - prioritizing impact for the children and partners we fund. 3. We subsidize costs where possible and keep a watchful eye on expenses and tracking. Our model has ensured that we have kept costs low and while we are a relatively small nonprofit - we have focused on having as much direct and efficient impact for children in need as possible - sometimes at the expense of scale - but never at the expense of the children.
